Sequoia-backed CurioPets is Pokémon GO meets Tamagotchi

As Apple gears adult to launch a protracted reality-equipped iOS 11 tomorrow, startup CurioPets is entirely prepared with a Pokémon GO-meets-Tamagotchi game.

CurioPets, brief for extraordinary pets, is a multi-player, protracted existence pet simulator that launches tomorrow on iOS. Built with Apple’s ARKit, a aim is to inspire real-world scrutiny — identical to Pokémon GO — as we transport around with possibly a puppy or a kitten and take caring of them, that is some-more like Tamagotchi and NeoPets.

All around a universe is extraordinary energy, CurioPets owner Nathan Kong told me. Throughout a game, we go to real-world locations like museums, art galleries and other places with informative aptitude to collect Curios, a in-game currency. You can use a Curios to buy clothes, furniture, food and other things for your practical pet.

There are dual worlds in a game. The initial is a practical one where your pet lives. Tucked inside a tree on a floating island, your pet relies on we to play with it, adorn a crib and dress it.

The AR universe is where your pet can collect Curios. To collect Curios, we enter AR mode, go to those culturally applicable spots and demeanour for a Curios spheres. In sequence to keep your pet happy and healthy, we need to make certain it’s well-fed, has high love levels and is gaining knowledge in a world.

Apple wasn’t permitting developers to share a TestFlight for their AR apps late final week, so Kong instead sent me a video of a trailer.

I don’t know about you, though I’m flattering pumped to try this out. Full disclosure, we have a rarely addictive celebrity and I’m legitimately frightened this diversion is going to take over my life — identical to what Candy Crush Saga did to me a few years back. So, if we don’t hear from me for a while, you’ll know why.

CurioPets has lifted over $300,000, around extend income from participating in Sequoia Capital’s summer module and from Amino Capital. The association is still pre-seed, Kong said, though hopes to lift a seed turn soon.
