Obsidian Entertainment Turned Down A Game Of Thrones Title In 2005

Game Of Thrones Season Seven, that has finished final Sunday, has proven how renouned a TV Show formed on George R.R. Martin novels is. This hasn’t always been a case, yet even before a HBO series, there were many who saw intensity in a universe and characters combined by a American writer. Among them was EA, that asked a eminent RPG studio to rise a diversion formed on a A Song of Ice and Fire novels.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Obsidian Entertainment co-founder and CEO Feargus Urquhart recently suggested that his studio incited down an event to rise a diversion formed on George R.R. Martin’s novels behind in 2005.

My feeling was, bargain a IP during a time, it’s about this domestic intrigue, and people’s tie to a IP is to all these characters – that’s how a books are written, any section is a chairman and what’s function to them.

Other than what uncanny things is going on over The Wall, and a dragons, and some spirit [of fantasy], there are no sorcery users, there are no clerics, no thieves. Basically there’s dudes with swords and armour and a small bit of mysticism, yet within a mainland there’s no goblins, no kobolds…

With a story not being easy to interpret into a role-playing game, Obsidian’s choice is really understandable. With a group looking, during a time, to try open universe RPG where players have genuine agency, it did not make most clarity to rise a diversion where critical characters have a specific purpose in a world.

So maybe there could have been something we could have done, yet we were starting to consider some-more about open-world RPGs, and we wanted a players to have agency, to be critical in a world.

Even yet studios might have a tough time building a correct Game of Thrones video game, there’s really a rather large direct for it. Just this week, rumors started present online about a Bethesda grown GOT diversion that was after suggested to be a fake product.
