Apple steals Google’s AI chief

Apple has usually poached one of Google’s tip AI executives in a pierce expected to have inclusive consequences.

Apple has hired John Giannandrea, formerly Google’s conduct of AI and Search, The New York Times reports. Giannandrea will lead Apple’s “machine training and A.I. strategy,” a Cupertino association pronounced in a matter to a Times; he will be one of usually 16 executives that news directly to CEO Tim Cook.

Just yesterday, The Information (paywalled) had reported that Giannandrea would be stepping down from his purpose during Google and would be transposed by 19-year Google veteran Jeff Dean. Giannandrea initial assimilated Google in 2010 after it acquired MetaWeb, where he served as CTO. The startup sought to make hunt formula some-more contextually wakeful by a large database of tagged data.

The sinecure is quite critical as Apple has seemed to tumble distant behind a rivals in a competition to build smarter program powered by synthetic intelligence. Siri, a digital partner into that Apple has pumped many of a consumer-facing AI technologies, is distant behind Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant in capabilities.
